"There are a ton of opportunities..."

Lisa D Final

I was recruited to join the New England office when it opened in Boston, so I’m the longest-serving member of this team here. I was looking for one more job before I head into retirement so for me this is the best possible job that I could have. We’re in this nonprofit world for a reason. We do get something out of doing what we went to school for and are trained to do to help nonprofits that are making so many sacrifices. We get compensated, of course, but in turn we get to do something for the greater good and leave the world a better place. I don’t think it gets any better than that.

With the enormous growth YPTC has had over the past two years – with over 500 employees now – they look internally to promote people. If you have other interests such as training or recruiting or moving up into management, there are a ton of opportunities.

It’s not an easy job. You have to follow all the procedures and processes and double-check your work and communicate with everyone. At the end of the day it’s still W-O-R-K. But it’s fun, and as a part-time employee I have a lot of flexibility. I’m able to use all my years of experience as a controller in an environment where I’m trusted to do the best work that I can for the client. YPTC gives us a lot of resources, and they listen to us when we have feedback time and during annual reviews. We’re in an environment where staff have permission to take time off and take care of themselves.
