"Many more resources and something I could learn and grow from..."

Lin Walker Headshot ST

I’ve been in accounting for over 20 years and started in nonprofit accounting about 10 years ago. I have worked in other outsourced accounting firms that did not have as many resources and support, and I found myself getting burnt out. After taking a summer off to spend time with my kids, I started looking for something part-time, but after talking to YPTC’s recruiter I decided to go back to full-time work. After speaking to several managers and accountants I knew it would be a really good fit. It was similar to what I had been doing but YPTC offered me many more resources and something I could learn and grow from.

I really value the company because of how much they care about our development and growth and how they’re there on a personal level for support. Just in this past year I lost my best friend to breast cancer; she had recently lost her husband, and I became the legal guardian of her two young children, plus having to care for my own two kids. I was grieving and going through many life changes, but my managers were very understanding and supportive and cared about my well-being. It was nice not having to worry about work while going through something like that. That kind of support is hard to find in a company.

I love the emphasis on work-life balance and the flexibility of being able to work from home. That’s a huge help. I don’t have to work all night, and I can be there for the kids.

Another thing I notice is how smart all of the accountants are. I felt intimidated at first about how knowledgeable everyone was. They know their stuff and if I don’t know the answer to something, then I know that someone here will have the answer. All of their knowledge of the industry and experience is really wonderful.
