"There’s a big family here to help you succeed every day...."
I emigrated from El Salvador in 1997 and didn’t speak a word of English. I had no idea that one day I might be an accountant. After getting a degree in hospitality, and working in a hotel 11 hours a day for a low salary, I told my husband I wanted to go back to college and become an accountant, and then took time off to study full-time to become a CPA. When I was ready to go back to work, I reached out to a former supervisor who was working at YPTC who suggested I send in a resume.
What I love about YPTC is that they treat us like professionals. They know that we are assigned a job and we will complete it – they’re not watching us every single minute.
The culture here is like a family — on Day One I felt like I was part of a big family. We now have a group of Latinas and since then I’ve had friends helping me all along the way whenever I have questions. It’s the same with my managers – whenever you have a question they’re right there. There’s a big family here to help you succeed every day.
There are also amazing trainings and options if we want to try something different. The company is very family-oriented with work-life balance. Full-time work is only a seven-hour day and I can take vacation any time I want as long as I coordinate it with my clients. I love it! It feels good having an employer who cares about you.
