"Every person I came across was my kind of people..."
I had a dual major in finance and accounting at the University of Minnesota and then went into a five-year leadership development program at a large corporate dairy cooperative. I particularly liked the high-level strategic application of finance and I left to get an accelerated international MBA in Madrid, Spain, focusing on social entrepreneurship. When I was ready to come home, I was looking for an opportunity to use my finance and accounting core skills to help nonprofits. I had a contact in YPTC’s new Denver market and quickly saw that YPTC was everything that I was looking for to be able to use my skills to do good.
A company’s culture is really important to me. Every person I came across was my kind of people. It was clear to me that I’d be happy working with YPTC. I love the flexibility and the ability to work remotely. A big part of what we do is working with the clients directly. It may be different working with nonprofits rather than with corporate, audit or accounting firms but you feel good working for nonprofits and for people who care.
There are definitely growth opportunities with an expanding client base and growing a new market such as Denver, but really the biggest thing is the company culture. They support your work/life balance, and you always have the support of the managers who stick up for the staff and associates.
