Visions and Pathways
"It was pretty much seamless…."
Since 1970, Visions and Pathways has helped over 8,000 abused, neglected, homeless, missing, and at-risk youths in northern and central New Jersey put the broken pieces of their lives back together. The organization provides these youths with shelter, food, clothing, a stable environment, and supportive services that guide them through the treacherous transitions to adulthood. The agency runs 11 programs for vulnerable youths, including outreach, residential services, counseling, education assistance, arts and recreation activities, career and employment counseling, scholarships, and financial literacy instruction. Based in Bridgewater, Somerset County, with a satellite Street Smart street outreach office in Morristown, Visions and Pathways is the first nonprofit, privately run youth shelter in New Jersey and is taking a community-based approach to strengthen families and prevent displacement and disruption.
CEO & Executive Director David Walker had heard about Your Part-Time Controller through several nonprofit networking groups. He suddenly found himself in immediate need of YPTC’s services when his CFO left right in the middle of the preparation for the independent audit. “Everything I had heard about YPTC had been positive and we had only a two-week turnaround to get somebody in the position,” he says.
YPTC Associates Gregg Indictor and Brad Bartolino stepped in. They met with the outgoing CFO and finished up the audit preparations. “The arrangement really met our needs and worked very well. It was pretty much seamless. They filled in the gap and this gave us time to recruit for an excellent permanent CFO replacement,” he adds.
“I’ve been doing this work for a very long time but I’m not an accountant. Having YPTC’s accumulated knowledge will be very helpful to our new CFO. YPTC brings a level of expertise and another set of eyes that are very useful. It helped to have them make our audit preparation go as quickly as possible. They took a lot of pressure off of us.
“They met a critical need at a critical time and as our relationship has continued it truly has been excellent,” he adds. “They’re very knowledgeable and flexible. I couldn’t afford a full-time employee with the level of expertise that they bring.”
