"I believe in a company living their culture and values..."
I started my career in what is now the Big Four public accounting in Minneapolis in 1990, then moved on to work in the accounting department at several large corporations before taking a break when I had children. Stepping back into my accounting career a few years later, I was in Northern California at that time and found a home in an outsourced accounting firm. I later moved to Wisconsin and became my former company’s first remote employee. When the pandemic hit, that firm went through some internal changes and that, combined with personally experiencing some burn out, I decided to take a break and work for a retail corporation. After a bit, I decided to go back into accounting and see what I could find working remotely. I found YPTC and it sounded perfect.
I believe in a company living their culture and values – not just posting them on a wall in the lunchroom. There are plenty of places that talk about their values but don’t live them. YPTC does, and it seems organic. Every meeting and interaction exudes authenticity and that we’re doing things for the right reason. The culture and values here are everything. YPTC talks about how the clients are important, but the employees are even more important.
I got to see early on, when I had an issue with a client, that YPTC was incredibly supportive of me. They believe in me and have my back 100%. I’ve heard over and over from other employees that this is the best place they’ve ever worked and it’s true.
Everyone I work with is amazing. The level of engagement in the chat during our Zoom meetings is insane with so many enthusiastic people commenting; I’ve never seen anything like it. Everybody is so generous with their time, expertise and willingness to help. If I’m struggling with an issue, there are seven different avenues within YPTC I can go down to get help. There’s great training and emphasis on education, which is so important in our work.
I like our mission of helping nonprofits do what they do best. Helping a wild bird sanctuary in Missouri understand their numbers so they can rescue and rehabilitate more birds feels far more rewarding than focusing on clients driven solely by profit.
The work is challenging and fun, and we get paid well for what we do. I love the interactions with my clients and have gotten involved in other ways at YPTC by helping out with internal projects and even joining the company book club. Working with this group of kind, smart people is pretty amazing!
